Brick House Durability

In the construction industry, building with mud bricks and brick houses is very common. Therefore, the question may arise in people’s minds: which construction method is a more reasonable choice? In this article, we want to answer this important question by examining the differences between mud brick houses and brick houses

Each of the materials used in building construction has its own advantages and disadvantages. Builders and contractors must choose the appropriate materials based on the type of construction and their specific needs. In the following, we will examine these materials used in the construction industry.

What is adobe houses?

Typically, in the past, especially in villages, adobe houses were used for building houses, and such houses were known as adobe houses. The primary material used in making adobe is clay. To produce adobe, clay is mixed with straw, small stones, and water.

To build a house with it, the mixture is poured into special molds and pressed. Then, the formed adobe bricks are placed under the sun and allowed to dry. The molds used to make adobe bricks are often large, resulting in adobe houses having thick walls.

These types of houses are rarely seen in cities and are mostly built in villages. This is because access to construction materials in remote villages is much more difficult. Therefore, local people produce adobe bricks by hand and build their own houses. Mud houses cannot be built more than one story high because adobe does not have enough strength for a two-story house.

Additionally, in the event of an earthquake, adobe buildings do not have sufficient resistance. Since our country is earthquake-prone, the use of adobe and similar materials is not recommended at all.

To examine the difference between adobe houses and brick houses, the second material to be examined is brick. Houses can be built with various materials, the most commonly used being brick. Bricks, like adobe, are often made from clay. However, bricks are processed with special machines and fired in brick kilns. Therefore, the resulting product is much stronger and more durable than adobe. Bricks are used in wall construction, building facades, roof construction, pergolas, and more.

Buildings of one to four stories can be constructed with bricks. (In a separate article, we have specifically introduced suitable bricks for construction.)

The main framework of these houses is made with bricks, but for the construction of the roof in Iran, profiles and bricks are usually used in an arch form. Some builders also use joist and block ceilings.

The difference between adobe houses and brick houses in the face of earthquakes is that adobe houses are not very durable, while brick houses are much more resilient. However, to increase their strength, it is necessary to use reinforcement beams on the foundations and roof.

In buildings constructed with bricks, the load-bearing walls are usually built on top of each other, and the partitions are typically these same load-bearing walls.

As mentioned, adobe is processed from raw mud and dried in the sun. Because adobe bricks are not fired in a kiln, they have low strength and lack the stability needed for constructing multi-story buildings. Additionally, unlike bricks, adobe does not provide sufficient security against damages such as floods, earthquakes, and storms. On the other hand, bricks are much more durable because they are fired in kilns and offer more reliable protection against potential hazards.

Of course, nowadays new bricks have entered the market that do not require kiln firing for production; however, they still possess high strength and durability and can easily replace traditional bricks. يُعد طوب الليغو are one of the latest building materials that are processed without kiln firing (and without polluting the environment with carbon monoxide gas emitted from these kilns) and are a suitable alternative to old materials. Because they have very high resistance and an aesthetically pleasing surface, they create a beautiful facade for your house.

Brick Building Durability

Housing and homes have always been important as shelters and protectors against external environmental dangers for humans. The strength and durability of a house have a direct relationship with its security, so it is important what materials are used and their quality. A quality product is one that can protect the structure against environmental damages such as earthquakes, fires, noise, floods, and acid.
