Steps to Painting a Brick Wall

After you have prepared your wall, you can start painting. To ensure the final quality of your painting is satisfactory, follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Prepare the Wall Surface

After cleaning your wall of any contaminants, you should level the surface. Bricks have many pores, and if they are too deep, the wall won’t look good when painted. However, if you used interlocking bricks in your construction, you won’t have this concern. The interlocking brick surface is completely smooth and, because of its interlocking structure, it has no pores and can be easily painted. Alternatively, you can order colored interlocking bricks and not have to paint them at all. (Read more about interlocking bricks.) If your wall is old and porous, you need to cover it with a primer specially made for brick walls. It’s important to use protective gear such as goggles, gloves, and a mask while doing this. If your painting area is large, use a large roller, and if the area is small, you can use a painting brush. Once you apply the primer to the surface, let it dry for 24 hours.

Step 2: Start Painting the Brick Wall First

paint the edges with a brush. Make sure not to miss any edges to ensure an even coat. It’s also better to paint the mortar lines with a brush. After that, use a roller to paint the entire surface. The direction of your hand movement should be from top to bottom. Keep the brush handy to catch any drips or runs. After finishing, let it dry.

Step 3: Apply a Second Coat of Paint

Add another layer of paint over the first coat using the same method as before. Once you have finished painting the second coat, remove the tape that you placed to prevent paint from spreading to adjacent areas. Then, after the wall has fully dried, you can return the furniture and household items to their original places.
